Frequently asked Questions

Does age make a difference in using the Tuner?

Since the true nature of your spine is to mirror your thoughts, all the structural deviations and effects upon the systems of your body begin to occur very early in your life. The earlier you begin to develop the patterns of focusing on your body without judgment, creating positive thinking, and being able to relax and bring your brain wave levels to alpha at will, which are all inherent in using the Tuner, the better. As you age, your body’s response to the resulting distortions of this mirroring process is that of a progressive decline. The use of the Spine Tuner has been found to stop this decline and often reverse it. In other words, as you use the Tuner, your body actually becomes more relaxed and flexible. The stiffness associated with aging definitely diminishes. Therefore the younger you are when you begin to use the Tuner, the healthier you can expect the rest of your life to be, and the older you are, the more you can look forward to regaining the health of your youth.

Will the Spine Tuner help with chronic back or neck problems?

The spine is actually a unit. Every vertebra influences every other vertebra. Hence, stabilizing one area of the spine often helps alleviate a problem in another area. Folks using the Tuner over the years have discovered that by keeping the thoracic section of the spinal column balanced, problems in their lower backs almost always diminish and frequently disappear. Neck and shoulder tension and pain also respond as a person uses the Tuner.

Can I use the Tuner if I have degeneration in my spine?

If the degeneration is in your lower back or neck, the answer is definitely “yes.” As a matter of fact, the symptoms resulting from these degenerations will diminish with the use of the Tuner. If, on the other hand, there is degeneration in the thoracic section of your spine it would be appropriate to seek approval from your doctor. However, research seems to indicate that realigning the relationships between vertebrae slows down and in some cases reverses these degenerative changes.

Will the Tuner help with constant headaches?

There are many reasons for headaches, yet frequently headaches are the result of structural imbalances and muscular tension. In these cases, using the Tuner has resulted in positively impacting the symptoms.

How often should I use the Tuner?

Our spines not only bend and twist as we maneuver through life, they also shift and change with each and every thought we have about life. By addressing the spine once a day with the Tuner, the spine appears to remain in a position conducive to health. In circumstances where mental or physical stress is elevated, it is appropriate, if possible, to use the Tuner more frequently. In cases of chronic health problems, the Tuner can be used as many times a day as a persons desires.

How long does it take to use the Tuner to achieve healthy results?

After becoming familiar with the use of the Tuner, most people spend about five minutes using the Tuner in one session. Many folks have found that they like to get in two sessions a day, one in the morning and then one in the evening. Getting to this point takes but a few weeks.

Does the Tuner help with my internal health?

The Tuner influences the thoracic spine which happens to be the area of the spine where the nerves exit on their way to most of the organs and systems of the body. By keeping this area of the spine balanced, you can ensure that the signals going to all these organs and systems are a match for good health.

How is it that I can feel younger just by working on my back?

Our bodies are amazingly resilient. By helping the thoracic region of your back resume its normal positioning, not only do the muscles, joints, and nerves regain their normal healthy functioning, but as you listen to the music and focus and feel, subtle changes begin to occur: first within your thinking and feeling, and then within your habit patterns. You may find yourself eating better foods and focusing on more things that just feel good. Effortlessly you will find yourself becoming healthier. And it just so happens being healthier is conducive to feeling younger.

Why should I use the Tuner when it is not that part of my back that is hurting?

The spine is a unit. By changing the middle, the two ends naturally have to return to a more normal and healthy position. Because of this interconnection, everyone that has been able to open the thoracic section of their spines with the use of the Tuner and the other tools of this procedure has found that their neck and back pain and symptoms have diminished. Often these areas regain their health without any further attention.

Do I need to be lying down to use the Tuner?

Lying down is the most effective way of using the Tuner. When you do, then gravity is actually assisting in helping your spine to realign and the muscles to relax. If your attention or balance isn’t quite as developed as you would like, then the lying position really becomes the only way you should use the Tuner. However, though a little awkward and definitely not enlisting the help of gravity, the Tuner can be successfully used in the standing position. By placing the Tuner between your back and a solid wall and then focusing and feeling, you can achieve the same neurological and structural changes you can expect as you lie on the Tuner. It is, however, harder to relax the muscles of your back, which helps in using the Tuner.

Why is it important to go from T1 to T12 and then back up again?

There are energy flows, known as meridians, found along the spine. This energy moves from the hips to the head. By going from T12 to T1 with the Tuner, you are enhancing these flows of energy by running in the same direction. However, it is mechanically more effective and easier to begin at T1 and then go down to T12. This has been found to have the best effect upon the realignment of the vertebrae and the relaxation of the muscles. So for the last 25 years it has been recommended to begin by going down to T12 and then finish by going up to T1, effectively impacting the body in both ways.

Why is it important to keep the Tuner tied tightly?

When you use the Tuner you are influencing, nerve plexus, reflexes, acupuncture meridians, muscles, rib alignments, the alignment of the thoracic vertebrae, and the functioning of the peripheral nerves. Over the years it has been found that this is best achieved if the tennis balls always remain touching as you use the Tuner. It is this position of the balls (just barely touching) that enables the Tuner to accomplish so much. Thus the Tuner has been designed so that you can keep the balls touching by keeping the open end (or ends) tightly tied.

Note: you may find your Tuner to open at one or both ends. Either way it works exactly the same.

Do I use the Tuner on a bare back or should I have a shirt on?

Some have found that a shirt tends to gather when they use the Tuner and thus prefer to be shirtless. Others have found that it only gathers for them is they are on a wood or tile floor. Lying on a carpet, rug or mattress should give you the option to be with or without a shirt. The choice is truly yours.

Will the Spine Tuner help if I am under a lot of stress?

The answer to this question is - absolutely. The most amazing responses from working with the Tuner have been witnessed by individuals who were under extreme stress. Remember, reactions within your body, whether positive or negative, are a mirror of your mental reactions to your situation. Thus when you allow yourself to listen to the music, relax, drift into the mental state of alpha, generate a feel-good thought (unrelated to your stresses), and focus on your body and the Spine Tuner, your body almost immediately begins to return to its normal healthy self. In addition, the nerve supply to the organs, glands, and systems, which are the first responders in high stress situations, come from the thoracic spine (the area you will be having the most influence on as you work with the Tuner). And lastly, all those muscles that have become tense and tight because of your stress are actually just looking for a reason to relax. Working with the Tuner gives them that opportunity.

And remember, if you have your own questions about the Spine Tuner, be sure to ask them!
